How to mine Flux (ZelHash)? Bat file setup, Overclocking for all cards

The main task of dual mining is to simultaneously mine two cryptocurrencies, which are based on different protocols. Thus, equipment productivity remains at the same level, and potential profits increase. Most often, the main currency for which dual mining is set up is Ethereum. In addition to it, miners set up Sia and Decred. There are already specialized ASIC miners, including the Gridseed GC3355, which allow you to simultaneously mine Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Dual mining was quite popular in 2022, when each miner could easily set up mining Ethereum and one of several altcoins at the same time. Since many double coins are no longer profitable to mine these days, the popularity of dual mining on video cards has sunk into oblivion. But, since some users are still interested in double mining, let’s take a look into history and tell you how it happened. We will also introduce digital coins available for double mining in 2022.

Each mining algorithm has its own specific features, which load the computing units and memory of video cards differently. This allows you to perform calculations for two algorithms and simultaneously mine two different coins. This article will talk about how dual cryptocurrency mining worked and what they “dug” in dual with ether or similar coins.

Of course, while the Ethereum cryptocurrency can be mined, Flux for powerful, new video cards is not profitable. However, for older models such as 1060 3 GB, 1050Ti and so on, Flux very often ranks 1-5 in terms of profitability!

For example, at the time of writing, 1 Nvidia 1060 3 Gb video card brings in $0.55 dirty per day (without deduction for light):

Which coin to choose for dual mining?

The income from mining the first coin can be viewed at the following addresses (for the most famous cryptocurrencies):

  • Ether – https://whattomine.com/coins/151-eth-ethash;
  • Ether Classic - https://whattomine.com/coins/162-etc-ethash;
  • Expanse - https://whattomine.com/coins/154-exp-ethash;
  • Musicoin - https://whattomine.com/coins/178-music-ethash;
  • Ubiq - https://whattomine.com/coins/173-ubq-ethash.

The profitability of mining the second coin can be viewed at:

  • Handshake - https://whattomine.com/merged_coins/67-eth-hns.

Yield calculators for other coins can be found at https://whattomine.com/calculators . Tracking the benefits of mining on these calculators will help you understand what is better to mine in dual with ether or its clones.

To enter values into the calculator, you need to know the approximate mining speed of a given algorithm, power consumption and the cost of one kilowatt in dollars.

At the time of writing, this service offers a single coin, Handshake (HNS), for double mining. It is not supported by traditional Ethereum miners: Claymore's Dual Miner and Phoneix miner. And, in general, the ether plays not the first, but the second fiddle here. The HNS cryptocurrency can be mined in tandem with ether using the NBMiner (NebuTech miner) utility, but due to the low profit, miners have lost interest in it.

How to mine FLUX?

In order to start mining FLUX on Nvidia or AMD video cards, you need to complete the following steps.

Step 1. Create a Digital Coin Wallet

You can create a digital wallet on the following platforms:

  • Zelcore - official wallet for Flux
  • Exchange: KuCoin, Gate.io
  • Multi-currency wallet

The Zelcore wallet is available for Android, IOS, Windows, MAC, and Linux operating systems.

The Zelcore wallet is the official Flux wallet. Apart from Flux, it also supports various other coins and tokens. Flux is a multi-currency wallet.

Safety tip! Always keep your wallet separate from your mining rig - do not install wallets on PCs with miners! If you mine from your PC, use the Zelcore mobile app.

Step 2. Selecting a mining pool

FLUX doesn't have many mining pools. Here is an example of large and not difficult to set up pools:

  • minerpool.org
  • fluxpools.net (supports solo mining)
  • herominers.com

Is it possible to mine Flux alone (solo)? Of course, you can mine solo, but first make sure you have enough power to do so.

You can set up mining directly or solo using pools such as 2miners and https://fluxpools.net/pools which support Flux solo mining.

You can see the full list of Flux mining pools here: https://miningpoolstats.stream/flux

So, which pool to choose and which to mine on? It's all up to you, but keep in mind that the larger the pool, the more frequent the payouts will be.

Among all pools; minerpool.org has the highest hashrate. It has over 51% of the total network hashrate, which is highly centralized. But still people choose Minerpool.org because only Minerpool.org supports merging (parallel assets) and also has a loyalty program.

Step 2.1 Flux - Parallel Resources?

Flux leverages the power of multiple blockchains. It provides access to multiple blockchains through parallel resources.

Essentially, it creates Flux assets on other smart contract blockchains and it will be interchangeable with the main Flux chain.

This in turn gives stream owners easy access to other blockchains and all major decentralized finance platforms.

Only Minerpool.org supports merging (parallel resources). so what does this mean?

For miners, this means that you will get more “yield” than usual. You will currently receive +39% more loot rewards.

With other mining pools, you only receive regular block rewards. But with Minerpool.org you will get regular block rewards + additional rewards.

In simple parallel assets, you get a larger payout at the end of the day. This is one of the reasons why Flux mining is very profitable and a large number of miners use minerpool.org.

To receive rewards for parallel assets, you don't need to set up anything. You will receive parallel asset rewards after every regular payout to your wallet.

It will be automatically converted 1:1 to Flux and will be paid according to the following schedule:

  • FLUX-KDA (KADENA) and FLUX-BSC (BINANCE SMART CHAIN): once a week. FLUX-ETH (ETHEREUM): once every 2 weeks with a fairly high commission.
  • SOLANA – FLUX-SOL
  • TRON – FLUX-TRX. And much more in the future.

Fine! Now let's choose a mining program.

Step 3. ZelHash miners

We know that FLUX runs on the ZelHash algorithm. This means that the following programs are suitable:

  • miniZ (Nvidia)
  • GMiner (AMD/Nvidia)
  • lolMiner (AMD/Nvidia)

All three miners are available for both Windows and Linux.

After downloading, unzip the file. It's time to configure the Bat file.

Step 4. Setting up the Bat file.

Now you need to configure the Bat file of the program that you downloaded.

All examples below are for the pool https://fluxpools.net/coins/flux/.

Example of setting up a Bat file for the miniZ program:

miniz :2033 —pass=YourPassword —par=125,4 —pers=ZelProof –extra

Example of setting up a Bat file for the LOLminer program:

lolMiner.exe --user Wallet-Address.WORKERNAME --port 2001 --pool us-flux.fluxpools.net --pass x --coin flux

Example of setting up a Bat file for the GMiner program:

miner.exe --user Wallet-Address.WORKERNAME --server eu-flux.fluxpools.net --port 7711 --pass x --algo 125_4 --pers ZelProof

miniZ

for 2miners:

miniZ.exe --url :9090 --log --extra

What is dual mining and how does it work?

The basic operating principle of dual-mining is already spelled out in its name - “dual” mining of cryptocurrencies. The miner's main task is to find two protocols that can be processed simultaneously. There are no alternatives to the Equihash protocol, and it is impossible to mine ZCash and ZenCash with another cryptocurrency at the same time.

the Ethash hash function (ETH, ETC, EXP and others), the greatest load during calculations falls on the video card memory. At the same time, the graphics processor is loaded very little. This allows simultaneous mining of two cryptocurrencies using one video card. As a rule, for this they use the Claymore's Dual Miner program, which works perfectly simultaneously with Nvidia and AMD video cards in one rig running a 64-bit Windows 7 or 10 operating system.

The best alternative program, Phoenix miner, did not initially support this option. Then the developers added support for double mining, but few people used it anymore. However, in the latest releases of claymore and phoenix miners, dual mining is still available.

FLUX setup on Hive OS

To mine Flux on Hive OS, all you need to do is connect your wallet and set up your flight sheet. All flux (ZelHash) miners are available on Hive OS.

How to connect a wallet and set up a flight sheet?

First, go to the wallets section and add a wallet. Select the Flux coin name, enter your Flux wallet address, give it a name and click the “create” button.

Then go to flight sheets and add a new flight sheet.

Select the Flux coin, select the Flux wallet you just added.

Then select the pool you want to mine on, select the miner from the list, lolMiner and Gminer support NVIDIA/AMD. miniZ only supports NVIDIA.

Give the flight sheet a name and click “create flight sheet”.

You don't need to configure the miner because the settings you made in Hive OS will automatically import everything. This way you don't need to touch any miner configuration settings (Bat file).

Then go to Flight Sheet Select and apply the Flux Flight Sheet you just configured.

Ready. You are now mining Flux.

To check statistics, the performance of your video cards, track your mining payouts and find out how many threads you have earned, visit the mining pool.

Visit the pool and enter your wallet address. The pool control panel displays all statistics.

How to get mining software

1) Mining software:

Click to download and set up PhoenixMiner, Claymore Miner or other mining software.

2) Operating system for mining:

Windows 10: suitable for those who mine on a work computer. This system is also good because it is widely known and does not require complex setup.

Hive OS: A mining platform that allows users to more efficiently and easily set up, mine and monitor thousands of farms in one place. Everything you and your team need to keep your farm running at peak efficiency.

Minerstat: Professional software stack for remote crypto mining with dedicated OS and applications for Windows and ASIC mining. Minerstat covers all the important features such as a built-in mining calculator, test, profit switching, diagnostics and dozens of other tools that make the job of a mining manager easier.

MinerOS: A Linux-based miner management system that supports cloud package management for mining machines. The System ROM supports U-disk installation and diskless installation, and includes original third-party software built-in.

Easy Miner: Supports over 90 types of coins. Allows you to change the pool, coin and wallet for batch mining in one click; batch update of the kernel, software and drivers in one click; and batch overclock with one click without relying on ShadowsocksR.

Overclocking settings

When you first mine a new algorithm, start with the default clock settings.

Zelhash is quite similar to KawPoW; The core is heavy, so don't use the same overclock as ETH, which requires a lot of memory.

Overclocking settings should be similar to RVN, where you overclock both the core and memory.

Also remember to set the fan speed and make sure the temperature does not exceed the optimal GPU temperature.

Creating a farm

To use Nanopool ETH for Ethereum mining, you will need a powerful GPU farm. Poole recommends using powerful GPUs with 4GB of RAM or more. You can use the latest NVIDIA video cards, which have a high hashrate.

Due to the increasing complexity, it is better to use at least 6-8 GPUs. This approach allows you to increase the overall productivity of the farm to 180-240 MH/s.

When choosing the number of GPUs, you need to focus on the amount of funds available for the start and the potential payback of the equipment.

When assembling a farm using video cards, it is important to take into account the costs of other equipment. You need a powerful power supply (2.5 kW or more), SSD, motherboard, RAM, display, router, uninterruptible power supply (optional) and other equipment.

Overclocking all video cards for Flux mining

The table below shows the optimal overclocking for all video cards that can mine Flux.

Use the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl + f” to search for the video card you need.

Wallet

Example of an online wallet MyEtherWallet

Before you can mine Ethereum with Nanopool ETH, you will need a wallet. The pool is not intended for storing coins, and when the minimum limit of 0.02 ETH is accumulated, funds are withdrawn to the user’s external storage (transfers are made several times a day). The address for withdrawal of funds is indicated when entering information into the bat file of the Ethereum mining software. There is no need to provide this information separately.

Miners have several options to choose from:

  1. Online wallets. These are services on the Internet that offer cryptocurrency storage services. The most popular is MyEtherWallet. You can store the private key on your PC. Its advantages are privacy, high speed of creation, support for smart contracts, and the ability to connect to Ledger and Trezor hardware wallets. One of the branches of online wallets is storage on exchange platforms. To receive them, you just need to register, then you can top up and store ETH (and other cryptocurrencies) in your account. An example is the EXMO exchange. The disadvantage of this method is low reliability, because the private keys are located on a third-party service. An alternative option is Coinbase, which previously only supported Bitcoin, but has recently launched support for Ethereum. The disadvantage of this wallet is that it works in a limited number of countries.
  2. Software wallets. More attractive in terms of reliability, choice of functions and ease of use. The Nanopool ETH website recommends the Mist desktop wallet. This is the official Ethereum repository, available at github.com/ethereum/mist/releases/. The wallet is reliable and has wide functionality, but installation will require a lot of free space on your PC (about 700 GB). An alternative solution is to choose a “lightweight” software storage that downloads not the entire blockchain chain to the PC, but only the block headers. Examples - Exodus, Jaxx.
  3. Browser wallet. To speed up storage installation, you should choose a browser extension program. A prominent representative is MetaMask, compatible with Chrome or Brave browsers. Features: convenient and intuitive interface and ease of installation. The disadvantage is a lesser degree of protection and a limited set of functions. To work with the pool, the existing set of options is sufficient.
  4. Mobile. Such repositories are produced in the form of special applications for smartphones for Android and iOS shells. They provide access to wallets from the owner’s phone. Mobile storage units are distinguished by good functionality and good protection. The choice is wide (examples are Coinomi and Jaxx).

When choosing a wallet, the miner needs to focus on the assigned tasks. If you plan to store earned cryptocurrency for a long time, it is better to choose desktop wallets. If you intend to immediately change coins and convert them into regular currency, an exchange will do. A universal solution - mobile or online storage. After installing the wallet, you need to get an address to include it in the batch file of the configuration file.

Profitability and profitability forecast for 2022

In February 2022, the developers updated the Ethereum network. The goal of the Constantinopole hard fork is to stop the penetration of ASIC miners. Perhaps it will all be over for them.

When will Ethereum mining on a video card end? According to Vitalik Buterin, the ETH coin should switch from the POW (proof of activity) algorithm to POS (proof of ownership) and then large rigs will be forced to stop production. But the exact end date of ethereum mining is currently unknown to anyone.

The main advantage of mining farms over ASICs is the ability to easily change mining to a more profitable algorithm. Therefore, the question is: “When will Ethereum mining on a video card end?” not vital for miners.

There will be enough coins for our age. New models of video cards are already approaching the productivity of devices based on integrated circuits. And a temporary recession in the cryptocurrency market is the best time to start. There is a lot of equipment available at affordable prices. And when the time comes, the investment will pay off with interest.

Working with an Ethereum miner account

About half an hour after the start of Ethereum mining, Nanopool will receive the first balls from the miner and generate an account for him. To access it, you need to enter the address of the wallet specified in the Nanominer settings in the “Address” line and click “Search”.

On the page that appears, you can see the user’s statistics on his hashrate (current calculated, average for 6 hours and last reported), including in the form of a graph, as well as the account balance and a detailed list of the workers (rigs) the user has.

There are also tabs:

  • Payments - with statistics on payments received;
  • Shares - with reports on the shares received by the pool from the miner;
  • Calculator - with approximate calculations of a miner’s potential earnings.

At the very top of the page there is a line that indicates the current minimum payout amount, and a little lower the account address and the “Settings” button.

When you click the latter, a window opens in which you can make the only change available to the user of the Nanopool website - specify the desired limit for automatic withdrawal of funds within the acceptable limits (from 0.05 to 20 ETH).

To do this, you will need to specify a password, a new minimum payout value and click “Apply changes”. The password in this case is the contents of the “email” field in the mining program settings (must be the same for all workers in the account).

Changing the payout limit to a miner on the Nanopool website

After saving the changes made, payments from Nanopool will be sent to the miner’s wallet when the specified balance is reached.

Miner configuration for ETH

To configure Nanominer for Ethereum mining, you need to find the config.ini file in the directory with the unpacked software and open it for editing using Notepad. Minimum settings are required that will allow you to quickly start mining ETH - you need to replace the existing text with the following lines:

[Ethash]

wallet=0x123…

coin = ETH

Only instead of 0x123 you need to enter the address of the user's ETH wallet. In this case, you must not make a mistake in any symbol, since payments from Nanopool will be credited to it.

Setting up a mining program in Nanopool

You can add optional lines to the settings file:

  • rigName = TEST — instead of TEST, indicate the desired name for the rig (the device on which mining is performed);
  • email = enter your email address to receive notifications from the pool about stopping the rig for any reason.

The specified email will also be used to access the user account settings on the Nanopool website. If you do not want to receive notifications by email, you can instead specify an arbitrary combination of characters, which will become the password for the user account.

There is no need to enter the pool address in the settings - Nanominer will automatically select one of the options available to Nanopool for the coin specified by the user, depending on its location.

However, to avoid the situation of choosing a server with low ping by default, you can add the line sortPools = true - the program will select the pool with the best response time.

A configuration file for Nanominer completely filled with the listed settings should look something like this:

Example of Nanominer configuration for Ethereum mining

A wider list of all possible options for this miner can be found in the README.md file in its official section on GitHub.

After making all the necessary settings, config.ini must be saved. Now you can start mining Ethereum by activating the executable file nanominer.exe.

This action will launch the options specified in the miner settings, initialize the GPUs available in the system, create a DAG file for each of them, and immediately begin hashing. The details of the described processes can be observed in the launched console window.

Example of a Nanominer window configured to mine ETH

It is advisable to add it to the White List of your antivirus before launching the miner, since most of them regard mining programs as malicious and block their operation.

At this point, the user can leave his mining equipment alone and, if all the settings have been made correctly, after some time the coins earned through Nanopool will begin to arrive in his Ethereum wallet.

Mining ETH

The daily trading volume of the Ethereum cryptocurrency is approximately $10,000,000,000, and the total number of altcoins exceeds one hundred and ten million units. Ethereum mining is an entire sector of the crypto industry, which employs tens of thousands of people. Why do you need mining in Ethereum? Coins are the energy supply of the ETH network; they are necessary to carry out all internal operations (transactions, smart contracts, ICOs, etc.).

The number of Ethereum coins is not limited; this step was taken by the developers to guarantee the stability of the cryptographic platform. If you stop mining eth coins, their value will skyrocket over time and it will become unprofitable to use the platform’s services. Therefore, Ethereum mining will remain in demand for a long time.

But there is one caveat: after the transition to the updated Ethereum 2.0 blockchain, Ethereum tokens will be mined using staking. The first phase of the process of modernizing the Ethereum cryptosystem is planned to be launched in July of this year. Of course, this does not mean that ETH POW mining will stop immediately. For a long time (at least another year), the Ethereum 1.0 and Ethereum 2.0 networks will exist in parallel to each other. Each user will be able to exchange coins mined in the Ethereum 1.0 network for tokens of the updated system (reverse conversion is not possible). So traditional Ethereum mining is still relevant.

In the future, both blockchains will merge and support for the Proof-of-Work algorithm will be completely discontinued. Well, for now you can still work.

Withdrawal of Nanopool funds

Withdrawals are made automatically upon reaching the specified amount; you can change it in your account settings, but you need to take into account the need for a working worker, whose rating on the pool must be at least 10 - this value is achieved automatically and quickly. Your password is the email address or passphrase that you set in the miner configuration.

ETC and ETH were withdrawn to the EXMO exchange and to a regular wallet in these networks; no problems with withdrawal or deposit were found.

Selecting, downloading and installing software

To mine Ethereum through Nanopool, you can use Nanominer, Claymore or Phoenix Miner miners.

The pool administration recommends using the Nanominer miner, as it is directly related to its creation.

Using his example, we will consider further processes of preparing for Ethereum mining in Nanopool.

To download the official version of the software, you need:

  1. Go to the Help page in the section of the Nanopool website dedicated to Ethereum mining.
  2. At the very bottom of the tab that opens, click on the “Nanominer” link.
  3. On the page that appears, select “Download The Miner from GitHub”.
  4. Once on GitHub, download the archive with the latest version of the miner, taking into account the OS used on the equipment (Linux or Windows).

Instructions for downloading Nanominer for mining in Nanopool

There is no need to install the downloaded software - you just need to unpack all Nanominer files from the archive into a random folder.
