Satoshi is a unit of measurement, a fractional part of Bitcoin, equal to 0.00000001 BTC. Thus, 1 Bitcoin = 100,000,000 Satoshi. The value is named after the developer (or group) of the Bitcoin protocol and software - Satoshi Nakamoto. The identity is anonymous, so who is hiding behind the name is unknown. In the roadmap, the smallest block is called a coin, but in 2010 it was proposed to name the value 0.00000001 BTC after the creator - “Satoshi”. The community supported the idea, and the name stuck.
The picture clearly shows how many Satoshi are in Bitcoin:

The history of satoshi
The definition of “Satoshi” as a unit of measurement first appeared on November 15, 2010. It was suggested by a user of the Bitcointalk forum under the nickname ribuck (below is a screenshot translated into Russian). Initially, he proposed calling the word “Satoshi” the smallest value (0.01 BTC) that was displayed in the Bitcoin Core wallet.
The discussion over the designation continued. On February 10, 2011, ribuck proposed calling the smallest portion of Bitcoin (1/100,000,000) "Satoshi" or "Aussie."
On February 18, 2011, the community finally approved a proposal from another user under the nickname marcus_of_augustus: 100 million Satoshi = 1 Bitcoin.

How many Satoshis are in 1 Bitcoin?
The table provides information on how many bitcoins are in a Satoshi depending on their quantity:
Satoshi | BTC |
1 | 0,00000001 |
10 | 0.0000001 |
100 | 0,000001 |
1000 | 0,00001 |
10 000 | 0,0001 |
100 000 | 0.001 |
1 000 000 | 0,01 |

Thus, 1 satoshi = 0.00000001 BTC.
Satoshi rate
The Satoshi exchange rate is unstable, this is due to the volatility of Bitcoin itself. Under the influence of external factors and news, the value of cryptocurrency rises and falls, so you need to focus on the current rate offered on cryptocurrency exchanges. It may differ in different exchangers at the same time, but not significantly.
Satoshi rate in dollars
Before converting Satoshi to dollars, you need to find out the current exchange rate on the cryptocurrency market. For example, Bitcoin costs $10,000, and you need to find out the price of 10,000 satoshi:
- $10,000/100,000,000 (total number of satoshi) = $0.0001 – this is the current value of 1 satoshi.
- 0.0001*10,000 = $1 – the required price of the asset.
Try to calculate the cost of Satoshi with the real Bitcoin rate. Look at this dynamic online chart, take the current values of the bitcoin exchange rate and calculate the real price of 1 satoshi. How much you can do - write in the comments!
Satoshi rate in rubles
Typically, the value of Bitcoin is indicated in dollars, the international currency. To calculate the Satoshi to ruble exchange rate, you will have to do one more operation: find out the current value of the dollar in rubles. Let's take the average value: $1 = 64 rubles, respectively:
- $10,000 (cost of Bitcoin)*64 = 640,000.
- 640,000/100,000,000 = 0.0064 rubles - this is how much 1 satoshi costs in rubles.
- 0.0064*10,000 = 64 rubles - this is how much you will have to pay for 10,000 satoshi.
To accurately calculate the value of Satoshi in rubles for today, you need to know the current bank rate.
Or you can use the Bitcoin exchange rate directly to the ruble (without conversion to dollars) - this data is on the BTC currency page. There will be simpler calculations and more accurate results.
How to get satoshi
Satoshi is a part of Bitcoin, and you can use the following methods to purchase them:
- Online exchangers or crypto exchanges. They mostly use the familiar name - BTC (Bitcoin). To purchase, you need to select the desired direction (for example, Sberbank-Bitcoin) and purchase cryptocurrency. This is the fastest and most reliable way to become the owner of valuable crypto coins. You can sell or exchange Satoshi for fiat currencies or other crypto coins.
- Satoshi faucets are a free way to receive cryptocurrency. Most services pay rewards in “Satoshi”, since their number is small. Depending on the faucet, you can get 50–200 satoshi per hour. This is not very much, but if you use several sites at the same time, you can earn several times more. This option is perfect for those who want to understand the question of “what is Satoshi” and earn them without investment.
- Mining. This is the mining of bitcoins using special devices - ASICs. Mining on video cards is not advisable due to the increase in complexity. In 2022, the cost of ASICs has fallen and you can buy, for example, Antminer S9 for $636 from the official manufacturer Bitmain. When it comes to the feasibility of mining and purchasing a “farm,” the cost of electricity ranks high alongside the cryptocurrency rate. Another option is to use the services of cloud mining sites to mine Satoshi. You will need to select the type of contract, the amount of power and make a payment.
How much is 1 satoshi?
Satoshi is a Bitcoin coin with a nominal value of 0.00000001 BTC. It is very easy to calculate its value: the Bitcoin exchange rate relative to the currency of interest is multiplied by the denomination indicated below. It is almost impossible to predict the price of Satoshi several days in advance: the data is constantly changing.
For example, how much is one Satoshi worth today? On March 23, 2022, you can buy 1834 Satoshi for $1. This means that the price of 1 satoshi is approximately 0.05 cents.

Where is satoshi most often used?
Satoshis are especially widespread on the so-called Bitcoin faucets - services that provide the opportunity to earn some coins simply for being on their website. Read more about cryptocurrency faucets in the article below, which lists those services that actually pay at the moment.
But you understand that they won’t pay much “just for visiting” and therefore you can only get tens and, less often, hundreds of satoshis in one visit. If bonuses were indicated in fractions of Bitcoin, then it would be difficult for people to understand how much they would receive in the end (you’ll get tired of counting the zeros after the decimal point).
But how nice it is to withdraw millions of satoshis, and not thousandths of a bitcoin
