Miners - under the guise of browser extensions
Cryptocurrency mining is a new wave among malware developers. Detected browser plugins in Chrome, applications in Google Play and Apple stores confirm this statement. Fortunately, you can prevent unwanted software by using special anti-mining browser add-ons. However, choose wisely before installing it.
Moreover, if you update your antivirus tool, it will also be able to block such an infection. As some hackers turn their attention to cryptocurrency miners rather than conventional malware, it would be a fatal mistake to ignore the possibility that miners could be bundled with ransomware - to double the profits for criminals.
Therefore, it is imperative that your system is kept up to date. Also, pay attention to what and where you download. Be aware that free audio editing utilities, media players, and file converters often contain unwanted attachments in the recommended or even custom installation section. Review the installation steps before clicking the “Install” button.
