Basic information about the Gate.io exchange

Owner: Gate Technology Inc. On the exchange itself there is no information about the country of registration, there is only a contact address in the Cayman Islands. There is no office there; the exchange only accepts correspondence at the address. Some bloggers suggest that the exchange is registered in the USA, but there is no confirmation of this. But the user agreement prohibits US citizens from working with the exchange. This does not add credibility to the company, since it is known that scammers do not risk contacting American citizens for fear of further persecution around the world. In any case, the exchange was never able to obtain a license to operate in the United States.

The exchange has been operating since October 2022.

Referral system. The referrer receives 30% of the referral commission throughout the year. The referral also receives a 10% discount on the commission when registering using someone else's code, so referral registration is beneficial to both.

Earn cryptocurrency on loans

Margin trading on Gate essentially occurs between individuals, since liquidity for margin trading is provided not by the platform itself, but by other people. Gate only ensures the automatic functioning of this mechanism and charges an “18% tax” on the income of investors for this.

You can provide credit to other traders on 44 currency pairs that are used for margin trading. The loan is provided for a period of 10 days. This is a fairly excellent option for almost passive income, since the trader only needs to provide a loan. Interest rates vary. For volatile cryptocurrencies they usually range from 3% to 10%, but for USDt they reach 20-30% per annum.

For the convenience of traders, the pairs are divided into five markets USDT, BTC, ETH, CNYX and Time-Limited (in the Russian version “Limited Time”). The CNYX market is the initial stage of introducing the stablecoin conversion symbol. Now, in addition to USDT, a large number of stablecoins have appeared. The Gate.io exchange supports many coins linked to currency rates, but creating a set of trading pairs with each of them would be inconvenient. The stablecoin conversion symbol will serve as the main trading symbol for each country, tied to the local currency rate. The developers decided to make their own symbol for each country - CNYX, KRWX, VNDX, etc. For Russia it will be RUBX, pegged to the ruble exchange rate. But that's in the plans. Internal Gatechain token (GT), POINT Sys system, what are points on the Gate.io exchange

By the end of the year, the creators of the Gate.io exchange plan to launch GateChain, an innovative public network focused on the secure storage and exchange of blockchain assets. The network will be launched in test mode in the third quarter, and fully functional - in the fourth quarter of 2022. On this blockchain, also in the fourth quarter, the decentralized exchange GateChain DEX will be launched.

The Gatechain Token (GT) will be the base currency and fuel for transactions on the GateChain decentralized trading platform. In the future, it will be possible to mine it using PoS mining, but for now GT can already be obtained on Gate.io for purchasing points or simply buy the GT token itself on the exchange.

Starting this May, the POINT Sys payment system for services is already being prepared for implementation, in which commissions can be paid with purchased points. Users can get an additional discount on fees by purchasing a prepaid plan. Now everyone who has purchased points will receive additional GT tokens, which can be withdrawn to their account after the launch of the mainnet. Registration and verification of data on Gate.io

The registration procedure on the Gate.io crypto exchange is not much different from other exchanges. Let's go through it using the crooked Russian version of the site. To register, click the “Register” button and fill out all the fields shown below:

In the “Fund Password” fields, write a password different from the main one, which will be used for financial transactions. Click on the inscription “Create an account” and confirm your email by clicking on the link in the letter. A window immediately pops up in English “Anti-pushing verification”, you don’t need to do anything here, it’s just checking the site URL, click “Confirm”. This window will pop up every time you log in.

To pass verification, hover the mouse over your nickname in the top right and click the “Verify” button. First, send a photo or scan of your international passport or driver’s license. Usually, verification requires documents that indicate the last name and first name in English. On the Gate, according to users, verification is also carried out using a regular Russian passport. A photo of the cover, a spread with personal data, as well as a photo where you are holding your passport in one hand, and in the other a sheet of paper with a large inscription “GATE.IO ID” are required No. and your account number.

Enter the data into the fields below: country, last name, first name (twice), document type and number and click the “Confirm and Send” button.

Verification takes place faster than on other exchanges – no more than a day. Although you can trade crypto without verification, it is better to go through it right away: verification will definitely be required when withdrawing funds, and until it is completed, the coins will be blocked when attempting to withdraw.

Account verification

Immediately after registration, the user is prompted to enable two-factor authentication (2fa) or go through the KYC identification procedure. 2fa and KYC are optional, however:

2fa serves as an additional level of protection for your account and funds.
KYC is actually required when withdrawing any amounts.

For KYC you need:

Depositing and withdrawing funds when working with the Gate.io exchange

You can enter any supported cryptocurrency into the Gate.io exchange. Unfortunately fiat funds are not accepted. To make a deposit, follow the “Wallets” link in the top menu (see screenshot below).

In the wallet, opposite each cryptocurrency there are “Deposit” and “Withdraw” buttons. When you click on “Deposit”, a page opens with the wallet address and brief instructions. To top up your account, simply send crypto to the specified wallet. For some coins you need to add the required information in the memo field. There are no exchange fees for replenishing your account, but each crypto has minimum deposit requirements.

There are exchange commissions for withdrawing funds, as well as a daily withdrawal limit. When withdrawing, you must indicate the address of your wallet, a comment on the payment, the withdrawal amount and the “fund password” that we remembered during registration. Click the “Send request” button.

It is also possible to transfer money from one account to another using GateCode. To do this, you need to combine parts of the sender and recipient code to create a transaction. But this procedure is unlikely to be popular with us, especially since both users must be verified.

If any security settings are changed, withdrawals are blocked for 24 hours.

How to contact exchange technical support

Traditionally, there is no hotline number. There is also no Russian-speaking support, so you can only receive advice in English or Chinese. You can communicate with technical support on the official website only using a Ticket. You will have to create a ticket with your problem and wait for it to be resolved. Gate IO reviews say that problems are resolved within 15-30 minutes or faster.

When creating a ticket, be sure to select “Question Type” - the subject of the request. For example, “Deposit” if there are any problems with replenishment, and “Withdraw” if there is a problem with withdrawal. It is also advisable to attach a screenshot of the platform or Account so that support can understand the essence of your problem.

Trading on the Gate.io crypto exchange

On the Gate.io platform, both margin trading (the “Margin” tab) and trading without the use of borrowed funds (the “Market” tab) are possible.

Let's take a closer look at creating orders for the purchase and sale of cryptocurrencies. In any of these cases, there are 3 options for setting up an order: Limit Order, Price Conditions and Time Conditions.

A limit order is the simplest option for opening a transaction: we indicate the price and lot volume we need and wait until the market price equals the one we specified.
Price Condition Order is one of the options for creating a pending order. We set a trigger on price, indicating the conditions “price is greater than or equal to” or “price is less than or equal to.” An order with a price condition does not enter the order book until the trigger condition is met. It can be used in two main strategies:
As an automatic tool for buying or selling at the desired price
Time Condition Order – This is a conditional order that is triggered at a specified time interval (trigger interval) within a valid period. When it is triggered, it will check if other criteria are met and if they are, a buy/sell order will be issued at the limit price and amount. A trigger interval is a time interval in which a “time condition” order will repeat from the time it is placed until it expires. If the trigger interval is set to 5 minutes, a time condition order will fire at 5 minute intervals.

In case of creating an order with price conditions or time conditions, we must indicate how many days this order will be valid (choice from 1 to 7 days).

Protection

Since the creation of the Gate.io crypto exchange, it has never been hacked. Gate has very strict security requirements; in addition to standard authorization measures, the crypto exchange has introduced several additional requirements. Without taking all measures to protect your account, it will not be possible to carry out full trading in crypto coins.

Margin trading on the Gate.io crypto exchange

We will consider margin trading from the perspective of its three main components: trading itself, borrowing funds and lending.

Visually, trading in the “Margin” section is practically no different from the “Market” section and is located in the “Margin Trade” subsection.

A “Get a loan” button and a risk level indicator have been added. There is the possibility of opening short orders, which is a huge plus in a falling cryptocurrency market.

Trading is carried out with leverage, partially due to borrowed funds from other users. Currently, the maximum leverage on the Gate.io exchange is three, i.e. if you have 10 bitcoins on your balance, then you can borrow 20 more.

In order to get a loan, go to the “Margin\Margin Loans” tab, select one of the cryptocurrencies in the left sidebar, read the terms (interest per day, number of days) and click the “Loan” button. The best interest rate is always at the top of the list.

In addition to the standard warning about high-risk trading, the exchange warns that it reserves the right to buy or automatically pay a loan on your margin account when your margin account is at risk. Those. when losses on open transactions reach a threshold and the return of borrowed assets is at risk, the transactions will be closed automatically in the negative, and your loans will be repaid from the balance of funds on the balance sheet. If the risk level of your margin trading account is below 130%, you will receive a risk warning via SMS or email. If the risk level drops to 110%, a forced liquidation occurs and your asset will be forced to be sold at the current market price.

Also, the exchange may forcefully close the transaction if you do not repay the loan on time. The standard period on the exchange is 10 days.

Gate.io provides the opportunity for passive income for cryptocurrency holders. You can lend your crypto to other traders trading with leverage. To do this, go to the “Margin \ Lending” section.

Here we enter the amount that we can lend, indicate the interest rate per day that suits us, the loan term of 10 days does not change yet, but they promise to make a choice from 10/20/30 days. I recommend setting the interest rate as it is now in the top offer, so that the allocated coins do not stand idle. You can also enable the option to auto-renew your rate. Remember that the exchange will take 18% from the profit received on loans.

How to protect your account and the cryptocurrencies on it

Two-factor authentication allows you to add an “extra key” to your account in addition to your password. If the password is compromised, the attacker will not be able to get into the account, since it will also be protected by two-factor authentication. And this is in addition to the “password fund”, which ultimately amounts to three protection circuits.

Gate will generate a QR code and its symbolic meaning. Save them in a safe place (encrypted RAR file or flash card). You can save the QR code as a page or take a screenshot of it.

Make sure you save the QR code or its symbolic value. You will need it if you lose your device or change it. After this, scan the QR code using the application on your mobile device. Click on the plus sign and select “scan barcode”. We point the phone camera at the barcode generated by Gate. The application should display the phrase: “secret key saved.”

Enter the 6 digits generated on your phone in the “enter the 6-digit dynamic code from your Google Authenticator” field, enter the “fund password” and click on the “Enable two-factor authentication” button. That's it, two-factor is enabled. Gate may additionally ask you to confirm this action by entering a regular password or by email.

After enabling two-factor authentication, your account is even more secure. The 6 digits generated in Google Authenticator will need to be entered when logging into your account and to confirm important account transactions.

Perpetual contracts on the Gate.io crypto exchange

Perpetual contracts are similar to futures, but do not have an expiration date. There is the possibility of trading with leverage and the possibility of opening short trades. It is not the cryptocurrencies themselves that are sold, but contracts for the purchase of cryptocurrencies at a specified price. The contract size is one dollar. At the moment you can work with three pairs:

BTC/USD: leverage 1:100;
ETH/USD: leverage 1:50;
EOS/USD: leverage 1:20.

A trader can set Stop Loss and Take Profit, and work with pending contracts using triggers, as described in the Market section.

Trading fees when working with perpetual contracts: 0.025% commission from makers and 0.075% reward to takers.

Remember, to ensure that your position is not forcibly closed, you must hold a certain percentage of the position value in your account to pay maintenance margin.

Mobile app

For the convenience of users and the ability to access the exchange from anywhere in the world, an application was developed for mobile devices based on Android and iOS. You can download it by reading the QR code with your mobile phone in the main menu, in the “Mobile application” section or via a link from the App Store or Google Play.

Gate.io Startup: exchange conducts IEO

The exchange also did not ignore the fashionable Initial Exchange Offering, which is located here in the “Startup” section. Let's look at the disadvantages of the exchange:

there is no information about the developers and owners of the exchange, the contact phone number is not indicated, only an address for correspondence, even the country of registration of the exchange is not known, as well as the presence of any licenses;
There is a choice of Russian, but most of the pages are not translated, and the translation itself leaves much to be desired. The English version is much clearer;
without verification it is impossible to withdraw cryptocurrency;
there is no possibility of replenishing the account with fiat money;
complex verification, which some users call “humiliating”;
a ban on participation in IEOs for citizens of Ukraine and Belarus.
