Several dozen exchange-traded funds (ETFs and mutual funds) are available to investors on the Moscow Exchange. And before choosing an investment object, it was good to immediately see all the costs - the maximum commission for owning shares of the fund.
Typically this information is displayed on the website of the management company (or provider). But there is a small catch... many management companies on the main page focus only on management fees. Hiding the remaining possible expenses deep, deep in the rules of trust management (documents of dozens of pages).
“Look, guys and girls! We have the lowest management fees. Only 0.1 - 0.2% per year. Where have you seen it cheaper?
And without knowing this internal kitchen, it is very easy to end up with additional unplanned expenses. Which, by the way, you will bear the entire time you own the fund’s shares.
Additionally, in addition to the management fee, the investor may be charged:
- depository expenses;
- other expenses.
Many exchange-traded funds (or rather their providers) follow the rule of least resistance. Why choose and buy individual securities for the fund yourself? It could be easier. Take some foreign ETF and sell it in Russia. On the one hand, there is nothing wrong with this. Excluding commissions. Foreign ETFs also charge management fees. And its size can be attributed to hidden commissions. And boldly add to the costs that Russian investors will incur when buying exchange-traded funds on the Moscow Exchange.
As a result, it can easily turn out that if you choose a mutual fund (or ETF) with a modest management fee, you will actually pay several times more.
Why is it important to pay attention to exchange-traded fund fees?
The answer is simple: They take part of your profits. And the higher the commission, the less profit goes to you.
I recommend two articles on the topic:
- 3 main factors for successful investments;
- How not to lose hundreds of thousands on commissions.
Therefore, other things being equal, it is better to pay attention to funds with minimal costs.

Advantages and disadvantages
Among the key advantages of the tool it is worth highlighting:
- accessibility – the cost of one share is often significantly lower than the price of one member company;
- simplicity - to invest, you just need to choose a suitable ETF and purchase an asset; no professional certificates are required;
- potential - in most cases they invest in large foreign companies, among which there is a stable increase;
- cost reduction - investors are not required to pay tax for redistribution of the portfolio composition; the corresponding obligation is assigned to the provider;
- diversification – investing in funds allows you to reduce risks, while achieving returns higher than on deposits.
A portfolio of investment funds is formed based on a specific stock exchange index (benchmark).
Despite the advantages of mutual funds, there are also disadvantages. The first one is the management fee. Companies charge about 0.9% of the invested amount for doing their own work, in particular for tracking quotes and building a portfolio.
The second disadvantage is that funds do not provide dividends on the Russian market. The accumulated funds are reinvested, which increases the value of the portfolio. The participant will be able to receive income only due to the exchange rate difference. The only dividend ETF is RUSE from ITI Funds.
Foreign ETFs pay dividends, while the commission charged is comparatively lower - within 0.3%.

Popular questions about ETF FinEx.
What taxes does an investor pay when investing in the FinEx ETF?
Any of the ETFs is a security, listed on the Moscow Exchange, which means it has the status of a share; accordingly, when owning an ETF, the investor pays a tax in the form of 13% personal income tax in the event of an increase in the market value. Or the investor is exempt from paying tax if he holds the shares for 3 years or more.
Is it possible to buy FinEx ETFs using an IIS?
Not only is it possible, but it is also necessary. This will be especially useful for novice investors. This instrument is so convenient that when investing for a period of 3 years or more, it will allow beginners to have a good return, significantly exceeding any bank deposits.
In addition, you can receive a deduction from the state in the form of 52,000 rubles.
How is the commission charged for any FinEx ETF?
Most funds have a commission of 0.9% , but not everyone knows how it is written off. Everything is simple, for example, the commission of the FXRL fund is 0.9%, which means it is calculated as 1/365 * 0.9%. But nothing is debited from your account, all commissions are calculated from the cost of the fund itself!
What happens if FinEx goes bankrupt?
In general, nothing bad will happen because... the fund does not own your money, but only buys shares with it that already belong to you in the proportions in which you invested. In the best case scenario, if one provider goes bankrupt, the fund can be managed by any other provider. In the worst case scenario, assets will be distributed among shareholders.
What will happen if new sanctions are introduced?
As a rule, sanctions affect individual large Russian companies or individual individuals. Sanctions cannot be applied to European ETF providers because all funds are under UK jurisdiction.
What about dividends? Does any Finex ETF pay them?
No, none of the ETFs pay dividends. All dividends received at the same moment are automatically reinvested back into securities, resulting in additional profitability.
How to buy FinEx ETF?
Can this be done on the Phoenix website? Since these ETFs are securities, purchasing them requires access to the stock market, which can be provided by any Russian broker, for example, Tinkoff Investments. There is no other way to buy an ETF.

FinEx services
Today, FinEx Funds plc provides investors with the opportunity to trade investment funds, providing them with investments in international indices or gold. Investments in ETFs give investors the opportunity to strengthen their portfolio investments through highly reliable securities of foreign companies and receive additional benefits through low-risk investments in Eurobonds and precious metals.
No investor qualifications are required to access the ETF. In addition, ETF funds on the Moscow Exchange have a very low entry threshold, about 1000-4000 rubles. Trading through a Russian broker allows you to carry out exchange transactions from one account, regardless of whether the investments are “Russian” or “foreign”, as well as have a tax agent represented by him.
The FinEx management company has created a number of advantages for Russian investors:
- simple trading - funds are traded similarly to ordinary shares;
- transparent investments online;
- the ability to use any type of strategy;
- choice of allocation, that is, determining the strategy and tactics for managing your investment portfolio.
I also recommend reading:

Investors can take advantage of such services as:
- disclosure of the list of Authorized Persons the next day after the start of trading;
- announcement of the estimated value of securities every ten minutes during the session;
- disclosure of data on daily transaction volumes.
Thus, Russian investors have every opportunity to effectively invest in a new instrument.
You can purchase shares of FinEx funds on the Moscow Exchange in any way: through a broker or another trading participant, regardless of whether he has market maker status. Brokers provide the opportunity to purchase shares via the Internet and by telephone.

All ETFs and mutual funds on the Moscow Exchange
ETF (Exchange traded fund) and MUIF (Exchange traded fund) are funds whose shares or shares are freely traded on an exchange.
Five dozen such instruments are available to investors on the Moscow Exchange. A complete and current list of all ETFs and mutual funds is presented on this page. You can sort the table by ticker or title; investment asset class; format, provider or management company; region of investment; underlying asset or tracked index.
For a more detailed study , check out the Reviews available via the links . With their help, you will learn about etf's composition, profitability, commissions, risks, competitors, pros, cons and other features that interest you.
What are exchange-traded funds
ETFs are created according to Western law, and BPIF according to Russian law. They have the same essence. They represent a collection of securities and/or assets collected according to a pre-announced investment strategy. This allows private investors to create portfolios that are diversified across asset classes, issuers and countries. At the same time, having a small starting capital.
ETFs and BPIFs listed on the Moscow Exchange allow you to earn money on different markets (Russia, USA, Europe), asset classes (stocks, bonds, Eurobonds, gold, monetary instruments) and investment strategies. Funds are usually index-linked . Managers only need to maintain the composition of assets in accordance with the index. Because of this, they have low management fees. With a share or unit of such a fund, you receive part of its portfolio.
You can buy and sell ETFs and mutual funds through almost any broker. Most funds on the Moscow Exchange have high liquidity . Passive and more transparent management, low commissions and liquidity distinguish exchange-traded funds from classic mutual funds. By purchasing an ETF or BIIF into an individual investment account (IIA), you can receive additional income in the form of tax benefits.

Management costs
It would seem that everything is simple. The prospectus of each fund spells out costs - management fees. Compare and choose with the lowest costs.
The funds focus on the same index. True, RUSE uses RTS (payments in dollars) as a basis.
But in fact it's the same thing
On topic: How does the ruble index of the Moscow Exchange differ from the dollar RTS
The difference lies in the payment of dividends. FXRL and SBMX reinvest everything, increasing the value of the share. RUSE - pays out.
FUNDS | Annual management fee, % | Dividends |
FXRL | 0,9 | are reinvested |
SBMX | 1-1,1 | are reinvested |
RUSE | 0,65 | are paid |
At first glance, it may seem that the most profitable choice is the RUSE ETF. With a minimum management fee of 0.65%. Plus, the divas also pay with real money.
But that's not true. Why?
Let's understand further.

A few clarifications on some of the data in the table...
Liquidity and sanctions
ETFs are a highly liquid trading instrument; exchange-traded funds are popular among investors all over the world. According to statistics, more than half of institutional investors contain various types of funds in their portfolio.
Regarding sanctions. It is understandable that Russian shares are falling in price because of them.
Let's say we invest in foreign securities. What are the sanctions risks? FinEx representatives believe that there are none, since the sanctions do not affect funds. Problems will arise if the state prohibits brokers from working with foreign securities. But let's hope this doesn't happen.
