Why choose Quantum Resistant Ledger?

Switching from ECDSA addresses to quantum-safe addresses would be a serious fork, and would potentially require deactivation of active addresses for the duration of the fork, regardless of the specific cryptocurrency. This could have serious adverse consequences for the cryptocurrency-based blockchain network, and would also require significant portions of the cryptocurrency code to be modified to accommodate new security features, calling into question the feasibility of implementation.

Moreover, it is not always possible to determine when and where rapid advances in technological innovation will occur. This is especially true for developing technologies, such as blockchain and quantum computers. There is some potential for unforeseen/non-public promotion of quantum computers, which could lead to attacks on cryptocurrency networks and market-wide sudden vulnerabilities of those based on ECDSA signature creation methods. This could cause a “bank run” scenario and collapse the value of many, if not all, of the cryptocurrencies secured through ECDSA.

What will be the rewards for staking?

Because the staking reward payout model is directly proportional, you will be rewarded with approximately the same percentage of incoming QRLs that you own relative to the staking pool during any given time period.

For example, if you stake 100 QRL, and the staking sum of all staking wallets is 1000 QRL, you own 10% of all funds staked. For any block during the staking period, you will have a 10% chance of creating the next valid block and receiving a reward for that block in return.

How is QRL post-quantum security ensured?

Some important algorithms in public key cryptography (such as ECDSA, used by Bitcoin) base their security on the assumption that the problem of discrete logarithms with respect to carefully selected groups has no efficient solution. However, it has been shown that a quantum computer of sufficient power can use Shor's algorithm to efficiently compute a private key generated using ECDSA, while simultaneously scanning in superposition all possible solutions for a given public key (address).

QRL implements one of a series of peer-reviewed post-quantum security algorithms: XMSS (eXtended Merkle Signature Scheme). XMSS uses OTS (One Time Signature Scheme), which can sign only one message with one key. OTS signing keys are generated on an as-needed basis, making XMSS unforgeable by targeted message attacks.

Is staking safe?

In cryptocurrency systems, keeping private keys hidden is the most important point in ensuring the security of funds. Staking on the QRL network does not require you to share any secret information with anyone. The source code is open so anyone can check it. It will also offer tools for “secure offline staking,” where users can stake without having to expose their private keys to the world wide web.

While a node is staking, funds are locked, but they can be unlocked at any time by ceasing staking.

Tokens of the Quantum Resistant Ledger system
