Cryptopia is a New Zealand exchange that has one of the largest selection of altcoins. It is in demand among miners who mine unpopular coins and exchange them here for Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dash and other assets. The possibilities of working with this platform and its advantages will be discussed in the review.

General information
The history of Cryptopia began in 2014 with the launch of the mining pool of the same name. Until recently, the site provided the opportunity for mining, but with the development of functionality for trading, the owners of the site decided to focus only on providing services for trading crypto assets. The corresponding coin mining pool has been disabled.
The official Cryptopia website is located at cryptopia.co.nz. The resource is managed by Cryptopia Limited, which is registered in the New Zealand city of Christchurch. The founder and director of the company is Adam Clark, the co-founder is Rob Dawson.
At the time of writing, according to the Coinhills resource, Cryptopia was in 40th place among all cryptocurrency trading platforms. The daily turnover of funds on February 15, 2022 amounted to 2850 BTC (27.5 million USD) or 0.14% of the volume of the entire crypto market.

According to the SimilarWeb resource, the cryptocurrency platform is most popular among Americans – 16.65% of the total. Despite the lack of an interface that supports the Russian language, second place is occupied by residents of Russia with an indicator of 6.82%. Citizens of Japan, India and the UK are slightly behind.

According to the owners of the crypto exchange, they wanted to create a small platform for exchanging cryptocurrency assets with a daily turnover of around 300 BTC. From the beginning of November 2022 to the end of January 2022, the number of visits to the site increased from 13.5 to 51.67 million. Many crypto traders began to consider this crypto exchange as an alternative to Binance when the latter closed registration for new clients at the beginning of the new year. By January 6, the number of registered customers approached 1.4 million.
As a result of the increased load on the Cryptopia infrastructure, some clients began to have problems logging into their accounts, making deposits and withdrawing assets. The response time from technical support has increased. Gradually, the service management solved the problems that arose and returned the quality of customer service to the previous level.
Currency pairs
You can trade almost all popular trading pairs on the exchange. In addition, the trading volume also includes many lesser-known cryptocurrencies, which often cannot be found anywhere else.
This platform works exclusively with cryptocurrencies, so if you plan to create a fiat deposit, this will not be possible. But on the platform you can enter or withdraw Qtum. In addition, operations with the Share coin are available here. Other “Accepted Payment Methods” include BTC, NZDT and USDT.
At the moment, the daily turnover of funds on the exchange is $14,863,721. This is not much, although the figure is solid. But this still does not allow the site to enter the top ten popular crypto exchanges. So far she is in 46th place on the overall list.

As can be seen from the exchange statistics, the main pairs consist mainly of little-known cryptocurrencies. Such as Maintenance MUSIC and more. They are generally inexpensive, which is why the daily turnover of funds is not as high as on other exchanges. But even that has changed. As already mentioned, today this exchange is in 46th place on the list, and less than a year ago it was in 53rd place with a turnover of only $2,951,513 (714.99 BTC). So the positive dynamics cannot be missed. Perhaps after some time the site will take one of the first places.
Procedure for opening a trading account
To open an account on the Cryptopia crypto exchange, on the main page of the site in the upper right corner you need to click the Register button. After this, the registration form will open. In the fields provided, you will need to fill in your login, email, password, and PIN code for two-factor authentication (any 4 digits). The password must consist of 8 characters and contain uppercase and uppercase letters, numbers, and special characters.

After reading the terms of cooperation, you must check the box to agree to the terms and conditions, confirm that the form is being filled out by a real person, and click on the Register button. An email will be sent to confirm your registration.
Security level
As you know, security comes first for a cryptocurrency exchange, because here people not only trade coins, but also store them. If a crypto exchange is hacked, everyone will suffer. And first of all, users. Therefore, the developers tried to do everything in their power to ensure safe and comfortable work on this site.
How successful they were is not for us to judge, but most users were quite satisfied with how their accounts were protected. Let's look at the issue of security on a crypto exchange in more detail:
The first thing that protects a person working on a given cryptocurrency exchange is the presence of two-factor authentication. But to take advantage of this security system, it needs to be configured. And everything is done through Email, Google Authentication, PIN code, security questions. In general, according to the theory, only you can log into your account. It is recommended to install 2FA as a minimum for logging into your account and withdrawing funds. But ideally, it would be better to work with protection on any serious transactions.- API. There is a public and private API. This allows you not to disclose personal information about your account.

The Cryptopia platform provides 3 levels of account verification:
email confirmation – entitles you to daily withdrawals in the amount of up to 5 thousand NZD (3689.5 USD);
identity confirmation – increases the available amount for withdrawal per day to 50 thousand NZD (36895 USD). It is necessary to fill in personal information, city, country and address of residence, as well as provide a scanned copy of your passport and a selfie with this passport;
an interview with technical support staff to access a withdrawal amount of more than 50 thousand NZD. Enterprises and corporations, among others, should receive this level.

Exchange referral program
The developers of the Cryptopia trading platform have created a profitable referral program that allows you to earn money by attracting clients. For each new trader you can receive 10% of his trading commissions. The reward is paid in DOT's own cryptocurrency and on the 1st of every month, the accumulated amount is transferred to your internal wallet.
To receive credits from the Cryptopia referral program, you need to provide each new user with a personal link, which he must provide during registration. You can find it on your Account profile page.
Main interface
Authorization on the site always requires an email, a password, and a PIN code. After this, the registered client is taken to the main page of the resource. There are 2 menus at the top of the screen:

If we compare cryptopia with other exchanges (such as Yobit, Bittrex and others), then it can be distinguished as an exchange that has been operating stably without major scandals for many years. Cryptopia has relatively small commissions and, most importantly, does not require the provision of passport data during registration (unlike, for example, Bittrex).
We do not recommend storing funds on the exchange - use cold wallets for this. However, please note that any exchange may periodically close the registration of new users, and send wallets for maintenance (that is, they cannot be used).
In order to avoid getting into a difficult situation with the impossibility of depositing/withdrawing funds on the exchange, we advise you to register on the Cryptopia exchange right now link (referral - 10% of trading) - this way you will always have the opportunity to use this exchange. All offers in the Marketplace are divided into categories. At the time of writing, computer equipment, mining equipment, jewelry, electronics, books and even cars were sold for crypto assets. There are also offers to sell cryptocurrency assets bypassing exchanges. Only mostly lots are placed by sellers from Western European countries, the USA and Australia.

Forums
On various forum threads you can find valuable information on trading, using the API, discussions on the various altcoins available and the coins being added.
There are subforums here in other languages. The Russian subforum on Cryptopia can be found in Other languages/locations. Since the exchange itself does not have an interface in Russian, you can get valuable advice on various issues on this thread. As you can see on the forum, more experienced users actively help newbies.
CoinInfo
It is unusual for such platforms to post technical information about the coins being traded. All data about each coin is listed in the CoinInfo tab. Among other information, you can find out the following about altcoins:
- mining algorithm;
- network type;
- number of required confirmations;
- block size;
- availability of wallets and more.
If an altcoin is mined using the POS algorithm, then the necessary data for staking is indicated for the coin.
Services
The following services are collected in a separate section for Cryptopia users:
- News – provides up-to-date information from representatives of the cryptocurrency service on technical work and emerging problems. This section reports the listing or delisting of coins;
- Paytopia – packages are offered for developers to add a new coin to the exchange listing. Payment is made in Dotcoin, the internal currency of the service. Also presented here is an exclusive device for secure authorization on the cryptocurrency platform. Security is ensured through one-time passwords. Cost is NZ$35;
- Rewards – Cryptopia randomly distributes rewards in coins for activity on the site. Rewards can be received both for trading crypto assets and for communicating in a chat or on a forum;
- Lotto – lotteries are held among clients. Tickets can be purchased using local DOT currency;
- Arbitrage is a tool useful for traders involved in cryptocurrency arbitrage. In real time, information about the rates of various coins to BTC and USDT is monitored and provided on the resources of Cryptopia, Bittrex, Bleutrade. There used to be Poloniex. You can make money from the difference in rates by buying coins cheaper on one exchange and selling them more expensive on another.

Working with the exchange
To work on a crypto exchange, you need to become more familiar with its interface, understand what is located in it and where, and what opportunities this resource offers. So, the following tabs are available to users:
- The first is “Exchange”. Here you can exchange coins. All you need for this operation is to click on “Search” after entering the designation of the desired crypto coin;
- Another interesting tab is “MarketPlace”. In simple words, here you can sell various rubbish for cryptocurrencies. It's kind of like a flea market. But due to the fact that the exchange itself is not the most popular, there are very few lots here, and trading is slow. Nevertheless, the idea is interesting, and when the resource becomes more popular, it will attract many users to the site;
- “CoinInfo” – a section where you can find out information about different coins;
- In the “Rewards” tab you can get bonuses distributed randomly by bots. The chance that you will get the bonus is very small, but there is such a possibility. So you can use it;
- The “Term Deposit” tab allows you to request crypto coins for your deposit. Naturally, you need to pay interest for this. They are small - from 0.5 to 1.5% per month. The percentage depends on the period for which the money is invested. The deposit is issued in the domestic exchange currency of DOT. You can buy coins here – on the exchange;
- The Lotto tab offers lottery tickets. All that remains for users is to buy them and perhaps even win something, although the chances of this are quite slim.
In general, the site has an interesting and convenient interface, as we have already discussed. And this is in addition to a large number of coins, among which there are even SIGT and other rare specimens.
Registration
We won’t talk at length about registering on this crypto exchange. This procedure is standard and practically no different from similar ones on other resources. It only takes a couple of minutes.
So, to get your account you need:
- Enter your username;
- Provide your email address;
- Create and enter a password for your future account. The password must be at least eight characters long. Moreover, it must be complex. That is, you need to use letters of different case, numbers and special characters. And don’t forget to provide a PIN code consisting of 4-8 digits;
- Check the box indicating that you agree to the terms of the exchange.
Then everything is even simpler. The user receives a letter to the e-mail address specified by him, where he is asked to confirm registration. Then just go to the exchange page using the link provided in the letter. Log in to the resource by entering your username/password.
Verification
After registration, new users must go through one more step to successfully trade on the site. That is, verification awaits you on Cryptopia. This is due to the fact that new users have significant limitations. That is, they can conduct trading operations in the amount of no more than five thousand NZDT per day. This doesn't suit many people.
To expand these limits to at least 50 thousand, you need to pass second-level verification. To do this you will need:
- Enter the user's passport details;
- Indicate your residential address;
- Attach to the form a scanned copy of an identity document, and always with a photo;
- After this, the user must also take a photograph of himself and the document. This is necessary to confirm that the person whose copies of documents are being sent is being verified.
But if the second level of verification does not provide the user with sufficient opportunities (for example, a person is not satisfied with the limit of 50 thousand), he can go through the third level of verification. Here it is more difficult, since the trader needs to personally contact the support service. This doesn't always work out right away. In addition, after this you must follow the instructions issued by the Cryptopia administration. It takes a lot of time.
Deposit and withdrawal
Before working on the exchange, you need to figure out how to top up your balance on Cryptopia. This process is similar to the same operations on other cryptocurrency platforms. So, let’s figure out how to top up your wallet on Cryptopia:
- To begin, click on your profile and go to the “Balances” tab. The section is built quite simply - at the very top the total balance is indicated (money from all wallets is summed up) in bitcoins. Below is a detailed description of how many coins each altcoin has. And below are wallets for the entire number of coins available on the crypto exchange. To avoid getting lost in them, check the boxes next to the ones you need. Then only they will be visible. This is convenient if there are only one or two workers’ wallets, and the rest have a zero balance;
- When the settings are completed, simply find the desired wallet, click the icon to enter coins. The system will generate an address to which the coins are transferred. Just go to your regular wallet and transfer money from it to your exchange account, following the standard scheme;
- Next we carry out the withdrawal from Cryptopia. To do this, next to the desired exchange account, you need to click the withdrawal icon. A corresponding field will appear where you need to indicate the amount and address of the wallet where the money will be transferred. Please note that when entering some cryptocurrencies, you may also be required to use a PaymentId. In addition, if verification is not completed, the amount of funds withdrawn is limited to five thousand New Zealand dollars.
By the way, withdrawal can be made not only from the wallet, but also from the “Withdraw” tab. In this case, the crypto exchange needs to pay a commission. Using Bitcoin as an example, the commission is a standard rate of 0.001 BTC.
Trading on the Cryptopia exchange
After the money has been deposited into your account, you can begin to take active steps and start making money on the cryptocurrency course in Cryptopia. Now you need to complete the following steps:
Go to the "Exchange" section. Users will see a page with quotes for rates of different coins. The choice can be made both on the five main markets (BTC, USDT, DOGE, LTC, NZDT), and on a specific, not so popular coin;- To proceed to transactions, you need to select a market and indicate the coin you will trade;
- Let's move on to creating an order. To carry out exchange and trade, fill out an order. To buy you need to select “Buy”, and to sell “Sell”. In the order itself, you just need to indicate the amount of cryptocurrencies and the price at which you want to carry out the transaction. Click on the button confirming the creation of the order.
As you can see, trading on the Cryptopia exchange is not much different from the same transactions on other resources. Even the language barrier hardly interferes with successful trading.
How to start trading
To place orders to buy and sell altcoins, in the top left menu you need to hover over Exchange and select Markets from the drop-down list. A new window will open in front of the user.

As can be seen from the figure, the trading interface consists of the following parts:
- main currency selection panel. The crypto exchange offers options for trading operations in relation to Bitcoin, American and New Zealand dollars, Litecoin and Dogecoin. When switching between tabs, a list of those altcoins that are traded in pairs with the selected asset is shown;
- side tabs where you can quickly view your orders and balance for different cryptocurrencies, and also switch to chat mode with other users;
- schedule. This shows how the exchange rate of the selected pair of coins has changed. Japanese candles are used. You can set the time interval from 1 minute to 2 days. Cryptopia does not provide technical analysis tools when working with a chart;
- blocks for placing buy and sell orders. The desired price at which to buy or sell an asset is determined by the trader himself. There is a limitation: the transaction amount in terms of Bitcoin must be at least 0.0005 BTC;
- order books for buying and selling, where all orders placed by traders are shown.
Below the order books there is a panel with the history of closed transactions and 2 blocks with open orders and the trading history of the trader in the selected pair.
How to top up your balance on Cryptopia
The Cryptopia exchange only works with cryptocurrency. Fiat money is not supported. To top up your wallet balance, you need to select the Balances tab (the translator calls it “Counterbalances”). The interface is very clear and simple.
Opposite each supported currency there are four buttons that allow you to select the desired action with your wallet:
- replenish;
- withdraw;
- transfer to another participant;
- delete.
By selecting the “Top up” action, the program will generate the address of your wallet for this cryptocurrency, to which you can transfer cash. It comes in two forms: either a set of characters or a QR code, which can be read by your smartphone's camera.
To withdraw money, you will need to indicate the storage address to which you intend to transfer the money.
Available cryptocurrencies
The Cryptopia exchange offers clients a large selection of altcoins. There are a total of 551 coins listed. Many coins are not available on other crypto exchanges. Therefore, the platform is popular among miners mining little-known altcoins.
Of the TOP 50 cryptocurrencies, 20 coins can be found here as of February 15, 2022. This list includes:

Pros and cons of Cryptopia
The Cryptopia exchange is not the most popular, but it has undoubted positive aspects. For example, its advantages include:
A considerable number of trading pairs. Today there are about five hundred of them. This is more than a good indicator for a crypto exchange. In addition, those coins that are not present on almost any other sites are quoted here. Simply put, the trader has no choice but to use the services of this particular resource;- Users can withdraw and top up their account in various cryptocurrencies. That is, there is no need to first transfer capital into Bitcoins or other popular coins;
- The administration carefully selects the coins that it trades in the “Exchange” section. In particular, cryptocurrencies that are scams or have problems are not allowed on the resource. This allows users to calmly choose a coin for trading and not worry that it is unreliable;
- There is verification, but its completion is optional. In particular, it is used to expand the limits allowed on the site. If you do not plan to work with large sums, then verification is not required;
- Site security is at a high level. In particular, it is provided by two-factor authentication;
- On the site you can exchange not only cryptocurrencies, but also goods. That is, people can sell or buy real things with cryptocurrencies. Such an offer is rare on crypto exchanges;
There are special sections where all the information necessary for trading is indicated. That is, even a beginner only needs to come to the stock exchange to learn at least the minimum basics of trading;- The crypto exchange has a chat and forum where users can freely communicate with each other. Of course, if they know English;
- You can use the referral program.
Now let's look at the disadvantages of this cryptocurrency platform:
- You cannot trade fiat on a crypto exchange. But users are not too upset about this, since many exchanges have a similar drawback;
- At the moment, the crypto exchange has relatively small trading volumes. But over time they will grow. However, it is not advisable to use this resource as the main trading tool;
- The site interface is available only in English. This prevents Russian-speaking traders from using all the capabilities of the crypto exchange;
- For transactions on the Cryptopia exchange you need to pay a commission;
- The exchange is often accused of blocking user accounts so that traders cannot hold much money on it. And the site’s reputation suffers after such accusations.
There is no contact information on the site. This also pushes potential clients away from the site. But there is a contact form where the support service tries to respond promptly.
Methods to deposit and withdraw assets on the exchange
On the Cryptopia crypto exchange, you can top up your account balance in altcoins for all verification levels. From level 2 (identity confirmation with documents), deposits in New Zealand dollars become available.
The procedure for depositing assets into your Cryptopia account is as follows:
- In the top right menu, you need to hover over the tab with the Bitcoin logo (the letter B with vertical tails).
- Select the Deposit tab from the drop-down list.
- Using a filter or scrolling, the desired coin is searched.
- The generated address will be shown in the window that opens. Next, you should copy it and transfer funds. After the required number of confirmations, the cryptocurrency will appear on the user’s account. You can also use a QR code to transfer money.

To fund your account with fiat money, you first need to exchange it into Bitcoin or some other crypto asset. How to buy BTC for rubles or dollars using LocalBitcoins is described in detail here.
To withdraw funds, you need to perform the following sequence of actions (the first point is the same as for a deposit):
- Select Withdraw from the drop-down list.
- Using a text filter or scrolling the list with the mouse, find the desired altcoin.
- In the form that appears, fill in the number of coins to withdraw, address and PIN code. The commission will be immediately indicated and the amount in New Zealand dollars will be shown to track the daily limit.

You can also make deposits and withdrawals from the Balances window. If a trader manages several accounts or needs to transfer money to another user within the trading service, there is a Transfer tab. No commission is charged.
Deposit and withdrawal of funds
Topping up your balance on Cryptopia is carried out only with the help of certain cryptocurrencies. To add crypto to your balance, you need to open the Deposit tab, where the address for crediting will be automatically generated. You can transfer funds to this address both from your wallet and from other trading platforms or exchangers. You can top up your account on the exchange with Bitcoin, Ethereum, Golem, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Dash, etc.
You can withdraw cryptocurrency in two ways: from the Withdraw tab or directly from your exchange account. When withdrawing Bitcoin coins, the commission amount is 0.001 BTC.
