Brief instructions for installing the firmware
1. Unblock SSH. Unlocking works on all versions of BITMAIN firmware. If an error occurs when unlocking SSH, then check whether you have unzipped the unlock_ssh folder to drive C: and run it without Administrator rights.
2. Edit the settings.cfg file: — Set the IPNETWORK network parameter. If you have 192.168.88. * — set IPNETWORK=192.168.88 (if you have 192.168.1. *, set IPNETWORK=192.168.1); — Set the scanning range IPSTART and IPEND. If you want to scan from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.40 - set IPSTART=2, IPEND=40; — Set Antminer web password ASICWEBPASS=your_password (Default: root); — Set ssh Antminer password ASICSSHPASS=your_password (Default: admin);
3. Scan and unlock the found devices using the script “1.unlock_ssh.bat”;
4. Wait 3-5 minutes for Antminers to load;
5. Run the replace.bat file;
6. Next, download and update the firmware via the ASIC upgrade function or en masse via btctool (upgrade function).

Bitmain has released firmware for Antminer S9 with AsicBoost support
Bitmain, a Chinese manufacturer of mining equipment, has released a software update for its Antminer S9 ASIC miners with support for AsicBoost technology, which makes Bitcoin mining more efficient. CoinDesk writes about this.
It is noteworthy that Bitmain has only now opened AsicBoost to users, although at the hardware level this function was implemented at the chip production stage. The announcement says that the technology will allow Bitmain ASICs to maintain leadership in Bitcoin mining, and will also increase the network hashrate while simultaneously reducing energy consumption.
The company explained that it had not previously planned to release software support for AsicBoost because it was concerned that the technology might be protected by patents. However, Bitmain's lawyers concluded that there is currently no specific patent for this software. The announcement says:
We are pleased to provide owners of Antminer ASICs that support this feature the benefits of AsicBoost without any negative impact on the Bitcoin protocol. This version of "open AsicBoost" uses a version of the bits that is different from the other manufacturers' version. It is transparent because it can be seen in the headers of the forced blocks.
Next week, Bitmain plans to release firmware with AsicBoost support for Antminer R4, S9i, S9j, T9 and T9+.
Until recently, AsicBoost was considered a rather controversial technology: Bitcoin Core developers stated that Bitcoin miners who use a function that exploits a vulnerability in the Proof-of-Work algorithm (it increases mining efficiency by 20%) are “unfair” and can harm the network.
It is also worth noting that Bitmain made the announcement a few days after the startup Braiins announced plans to release its version of the software with AsicBoost support for Antminer S9. Last Thursday, the startup said in a blog post that the ASIC could support AsicBoost, although the technology was independently estimated to reduce power consumption by 13% rather than 20%.
In its announcement, Bitmain also announced that it activated AsicBoost in the BTC.com and Antpool mining pools in March of this year. It was previously suggested that Bitmain could be using the technology secretly, although the company denied this.

Popular questions
How long can an ASIC with new firmware last? At the moment, the firmware is at the alpha version stage, the longest tests were more than 1.5 months of work. When selecting the frequency and voltage of the firmware, increasing the power of the antminer, you must look at the temperature of the chips; the temperature of the chips should not exceed 90 degrees. If the temperature is high, then the ASIC either does not have enough cooling with cold air, or you are going overboard with the frequency.
How much does the consumption increase and will the APW9 unit withstand it? Consumption increases proportionally to power, but in some cases improved power efficiency can be achieved from 7nm chips. After some time of testing, we came up with the most effective modes:
- For S17 - this is 70-72TH\s at 3150w +\- 5%
- For T17 - this is 53-55TH\s at 3000w +\- 5%
You must understand that this is not exact data, each ASIC behaves differently and you need to be very careful not to overdo it. You are personally responsible for all experiments with the firmware.
Guarantee. Is it possible to restore the factory firmware? The warranty does not cover overclocking of equipment. The firmware can always be easily rolled back to the standard firmware from the BITMAIN factory.
Is there any support? Yes, if you have any questions about setting up the firmware, our partners provide support. You can find out more from our manager using the links below.
Hiveon ASIC: automatic tuner tuning
After installing the new firmware, you can log into your ASIC miner again. This time you will be greeted by a new Hiveon ASIC UI review page. Let's take a look at Profiles and basic settings for now.
Attention! To use most of these options, you will need to have a custom power supply connected to your ASIC. The factory power supply is not powerful enough to handle the load and your ASIC will shut down.
To select the desired Profile , go to the Miner Configuration , and then to Auto Tuner Configuration . There you can choose the profile that suits your needs best.
A small disclaimer: We do not recommend choosing Manual mode unless you have sufficient skills in manually configuring ASICs. We will not describe the manual procedure because it is almost impossible to describe briefly.
Then click the Apply Changes at the bottom of the page and wait until the algorithm completes auto-configuring the ASIC. This may take up to an hour (depending on the selected profile). Your hashrate may fluctuate greatly during the process - this is normal.
How to reflash ASIC for another currency?
To start mining new coins, do the following:
- We update the ASIC firmware by downloading it from the developer’s website. This is necessary if the old program does not support the Stratum protocol (which is what most pools use). In addition, after flashing, power consumption often decreases, hashrate increases, or additional options appear.
- We decide on a cryptocurrency and find a pool that meets all the criteria.
- We register in the pool and create a worker.
- We are starting a wallet for cryptocurrency, the mining of which is planned in the near future.
- We enter the storage number in the pool settings.
- Go to the control panel of the ASIC miner, enter the worker and pool settings. Here you need to provide a link, as well as the employee’s name and password (issued upon registration).
- We save and enter the ASIC settings.
- After 8–10 minutes, we refresh the page and look at the results of the work.
