The new generation will indeed consist of Antminer S17 Pro, S17 and T17. Each model will receive 7-nanometer second-generation BM1397 chips. They feature improved hashrate and increased energy efficiency.

Characteristics of Antminer S17 Pro

Antminer S17 Pro from Bitmain will be available in two varieties at 50 and 53 TH/s. The new product will be able to operate in three modes: normal, economical and turbo mode. Switching between them will provide better customization and adaptability to different mining conditions.

The difference is in energy efficiency. In normal and economical modes, the indicator will be at the level of 39.5 and 36 J/TH, while the most powerful will consume 45 J/TH.

Connecting and setting up Antminer S17+

Before starting a new ASIC, carefully inspect and check that the fans and chips are securely fastened to the hash boards . If you notice any damage or defect, please contact support immediately. Do not mine at temperatures above 35°C and air humidity above 65%, make sure that a layer of dust does not form on the ASIC.

Violation of operating conditions will lead to premature failure of the device. Before you start, get yourself a crypto wallet; it’s best to buy a hardware Ledger or Trezor. Select a mining pool, the full list is available at https://miningpoolstats.stream and create an account on it.

Instructions for setting up and starting:

  • Download and run the IP Report utility on your computer. The download is available on the manufacturer’s official website https://service.bitmain.com/support/download.
  • Connect the Ethernet cable to the crystal head and plug the miner into a power outlet. Wait until the green light starts blinking before searching for the device's IP address.
  • Click this button IP Report on the control panel of the miner and the IP address of the miner will be displayed in the program window on the PC.

  • Enter this address into the top line of your browser (it is recommended to use Google Chrome or Firefox). A dialog box will appear asking you to enter your login credentials. The default login and password is “root”.

  • You can work with one or two devices with a dynamic IP address, but for more devices you will need a static IP. Enter the Address, Subnet Mask, SWG, DNS, then click " Save and Apply ".
  • Go to the Miner Setup tab to configure the pools.

  • Enter the mining pool URL and miner name (in the Worker section). There is no need to change the password.
  • Select the operating mode and then click “Save and Apply” to connect to the “pool”.

This completes the setup. 5 to 30 minutes for statistics to be displayed . Always monitor the average mining speed, not just the real-time hashrate.

How to buy Antminer S17 and S17 Pro

The models will be sold in two batches through the official Bitmain store. We are waiting for the first part on April 9 at 9:00 Moscow time. The second batch will be in the evening of the same day - April 9 at 19:00 Moscow time.

UPD: Bitmain conducted the first round of sales and at the same time revealed the cost of miners. Thanks to this, it is possible to calculate the profitability and payback of new products.

Let's talk about the profitability of AntMiner S19, S17, S9 and other models directly related to the SHA-256 algorithm. To be honest, other algorithms are practically not interesting to me, since mining on them cannot be something stable. Unless, of course, we are talking about mining farms, which can be reconfigured and mine what you like. But this post is about ASICs, so we will talk about Bitcoin mining.

And before we look at the entire line of AntMiner mining ASICs using the SHA-256 algorithm, I would like to clarify a few points.

Important points in mining on ASICs

Is it profitable to mine now, at the moment - February 2021? Absolutely yes! The higher the rate, the greater the popularity of the first cryptocurrency, the higher the commissions - the more profitable it is for the miner.

Is it profitable to buy ASIC now? Definitely not! The more movement around cryptocurrency in general, the more expensive the devices. They need to be bought during large corrections; I think we won’t see anything like this until 2022.

Is it worth buying a used ASIC? Definitely yes! But under certain conditions. You can check the product locally, make sure that everything works and at the same time the price is not high!

I highly recommend that you read the post: “Is mining profitable? Should I buy an ASIC? I tried to delve into the details of these moments.

Why ASICs from AntMiner?

At the time when we were selling mining equipment, we started back in 2022, Bitmain was essentially a monopolist. The most affordable ASIC models, and here we are talking not only about acquisition, but also about the possibility of repair - there was AntMiner. Not much has changed since then. The most common spare parts, instructions, and custom firmware are AntMiner.

The main disadvantage of ASICs from Bitmain is the huge amount of defects in their batches!

Do I advise you to buy ASICs from Bitmain!? No! I don’t think it’s right to advise you anything regarding the brand. If you decide to mine on ASICs, then the most important thing is to buy a cheap machine with an excellent hashrate, low power consumption and at the same time using the sha-256 algorithm. I do not advise you to contact ASICs using other algorithms, especially if you are buying your first ASIC.

AntMiner profitability

Below you see a table of profitability of the AntMiner model range using the SHA-256 algorithm. This is the mining of Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash with a profit per day without taking into account the outlet! (pulled from the profitability calculator)

How are AntMiner releases structured?

I would not consider releases that are just going to enter the market by the summer of 2022, such as Antminer S19j and Antminer S19j Pro. And in general, I don’t recommend buying something that you have to wait for. This is always an unreasonably high price, which will definitely fall within a month after release. Although we must pay tribute to the plant's releases, do you know how they work?

Let me give you an example. At the very beginning of the year, Bitmain releases a new, regular model, which is more powerful and cooler than the previous one. Yes this is true. But does it work stably? As a rule, no! Let’s say Antminer S17 and S17 Pro, which were announced back in the spring of 2019. A whole bunch of defects, downtime, complaints from customers, etc. Then they start working on the bugs by releasing various revisions of these devices. And probably only by the end of the year will something more or less stable come out. In our example this is Antminer S17+

The same can be said about Antminer S7, S9, S19. Every single Bitmain model goes through this path. I think now it becomes a little clearer to you. And guided by the logic of releases, I would look at later revisions of models that have already earned popularity.

Popular AntMiner models.

At the moment, the list of the most popular AntMiner models as chosen by users includes the following:

  • S9;
  • S19;
  • S19 Pro;
  • S17;
  • T17;
  • T9;

ASIC power consumption is important!

Don't forget about power consumption, even if you have a free outlet, which I doubt. There are also such concepts as load on the electrical network, heat dissipation and noise. All these parameters depend on the power of the device. Let's compare the Antminer S19j Pro, which, with a hashrate of 100 TH\s, consumes 3050 watts and at the same time makes a noise of 75 dB. Well, for example, with Antminer S9j 14.5 TH\s, of which we need 5 pieces for the same hashrate. And the total power will be 6750 watts. Which is twice as much! Plus, each device is noisy at 76 dB. Takes up a lot more space.

Of the advantages, only one can be noted. Antminer S19j Pro failed and we lost a hashrate of 100 TH\s, one of the Antminer S9j failed and our losses were only 14.5 TH\s

Custom firmware and cooling

When installing the ASIC in immersion liquid, for example the Antminer S9 model and all its revisions, you can overclock it to 19-21 Th/s. At the same time, direct the heat in the right direction and significantly reduce noise. I think this is understandable. Immersion cooling is a great thing.
