At the same time, the main feature of ASICs is their main disadvantage - working with one hashing algorithm significantly limits the ASIC owner in possible options for making a profit. As for computing power, the first ASIC miners had a hashrate that did not exceed 65 GH/s, which was enough for 30 video cards. Modern ASIC chips for Bitcoin, according to their characteristics, can replace 300–700 first-generation ASIC devices, providing a hashing rate of 15–60 TH/s.

An important factor when using ASICs for mining cryptocurrencies is their payback - the period of time during which the ASIC covers the costs of its acquisition and begins to make a profit. This parameter will be different for each individual ASIC considered, as it depends on its cost, computing power and supported hashing algorithm.

S9 was conceived and implemented by Bitmain specialists as an energy-efficient tool for mining cryptocurrencies that operate using SHA-256. The next point you need to pay attention to when choosing an ASIC miner is its computing power (hashrate). It is this indicator that will primarily determine the mining performance and the profit received.

An equally important point is the power consumption of the ASIC. Don't forget that the ASIC miner will have to work almost non-stop to ensure the highest possible profit. This means that the higher the ASIC's power consumption, the higher the energy bills will be. Given these costs, purchasing an ASIC may well prove unprofitable to begin with. If electricity is expensive, and the ASIC itself “eats” a lot of electricity, but its hashrate is already slightly outdated, the profit will be minimal (if any).

The approximate profitability of an ASIC that is being considered for purchase can be estimated using various mining calculators, most often located on mining pool websites, for example, NiceHash.

You also need to decide on the amount you are willing to spend, since the price of the ASIC will directly affect its performance and energy efficiency. If the goal is to start mining cryptocurrency as soon as possible, you will have to buy from local online sellers, who inflate the official price by 20–30 and even 40%. If you can wait, it is better to pre-order an ASIC from the manufacturer with delivery in a few months.
